About: Sara Sowell is a video editor, artist and filmmaker. Born in Houston, Texas, Sowell received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and MFA in Cinematic Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Sara has a decade of editing experience with clients in NYC cutting documentary, commercial and branded content, and experimental hybrid films with filmmaker Lily Baldwin. She has worked for Shadow, Condé Nast, Refinery29, Genius, BDG Media, and TAG Creative. In 2019 she edited the feature-length documentary Universe, winner of DOC NYC’s Best Music Documentary.
Artist Bio: Sara Sowell is a visual artist and experimental filmmaker working with darkroom processes and expanded cinematic form. Her work has shown at the Chicago Film Society, Chicago, IL; Light Field, San Francisco, CA; Microscope Gallery, New York, NY; IFFR, Rotterdam, NL; Curtas Vila do Conde, Porto, PT among other film festivals and artist-run spaces. Her films are in distribution through Light Cone.
