Sara Sowell is a video editor, artist and filmmaker. Born in Houston, Texas, Sowell received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and MFA in Cinematic Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Sara has a decade of editing experience with clients in NYC cutting documentary, commercial and branded content, and experimental hybrid films with filmmaker Lily Baldwin. She has worked for Shadow, Condé Nast, Refinery29, Genius, BDG Media, and TAG Creative. In 2019 she edited the feature-length documentary Universe, winner of DOC NYC’s Best Music Documentary.

Artist Bio:

Sara Sowell is an artist and experimental filmmaker. Her film, performance and installation work reanimates legacies of art and media production with irreverence through photographic abstraction and other interventions. Her work has shown in galleries, artist-run spaces and international film festivals including
Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival, Porto, PT; Chicago Film Society, Chicago, IL; International Film Festival Rotterdam, Rotterdam, NL; Light Field, San Francisco, CA; Microscope Gallery, New York, NY; The Wexner Center, Columbus, OH; and Baltic Analog Lab, Riga, LV.

She has participated in residencies at Baltic Analog Lab, Riga, LV; Millennium Film Workshop, Brooklyn, NY; Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT; and NARS Foundation, Brooklyn, NY.
